Before bringing my kids to Singapore, one of the most important factor is to bring our helper with us. We need someone who we can trust with the kids while me and my husband works. I consider my helper as my Angel, she's been with us for more than 8 years already, ever since my firstborn was 1 year old, now my daughter is turning 10. She knows how we want our kids to be treated, knows their different personalities. We were trained by our parents to treat our helpers us family because Loyalty can never be bought. My Angel had been coming here in SG before as tourist whenever my kids spent their vacations here (Christmas, school breaks etc..) so she likes how Singapore is and already have the idea how things works here.
So, while on maternity leave, i processed her Work Permit, I did some research and was able to save money compared to getting an Agency, almost everything can be done online. Total COST of processing is $471.12 only including insurance and bond. You have to consider first the Foreign domestic worker eligibility: Female, 23 to 50 years old at the time of application and Minimum 8 years of formal education with a recognized certificate. Below are the step by step process: 1. Register on the SingPass website to have a SingPass ID use for online application (if you still don't have one) - Go to this website (SIngPass) 2. Attend the Employers' Orientation Programme (EOP) (is a 3-hour programme that will help you understand your role and responsibilities as an employer of a foreign domestic worker (FDW). - Go to this website to register, you will need your SingPass ( Singapore Polytechnic's EOP website) - should be completed at least 2 working days before submitting a Work Permit application. - Cost is for Classroom EOP: $28 to $30. Online EOP: $40 (I did the online for less hassle) 3. Apply for the work permit of your helper online - Go to this website to apply using your SingPass (Work Permit Online) - Cost is $30 SGD for the application - If your application is approved, MOM will send you an in-principle approval letter. If you apply online: 1 working day, unless more information is required. You can check the status of the application on the same website. For our application we were asked to submit additional requirements which are the Tenancy Agreement of the HDB unit that we are renting and our kids birth certificates. IF REJECTED, please read my other blog on how to apply for an appeal, you do not need to reapply again and pay another $30.. keep on appealing until approval is obtained!!! :) http://mudraofthree.weebly.com/blog/how-to-appeal-for-rejected-helper-fdw-work-permit-application 4.Upon approval of application, Buy personal accident and medical insurance as well as security bond. - I called NTUC and provide them the WP# and SB Transmission#. Purchased (MI3E) 26 months policy - Cost is $256.80 which is valid for 26 months (NTUC offered me with less 10% so only had to pay $231.12) - Status of the aplication can be check on the same site as the application (Work Permit Online) 5. Register for the Settling-In Programme (SIP) before your helper arrives in Singapore (it is a 1-day orientation programme for first-time FDWs to educate them on safety precautions and living in Singapore) - Go to this website to register and schedule (SIP), the schedule should be within 3 days of your helper's arrival in SG. - Your helper needs to bring the following documents in the centre during the programme 1.The FDW’s passport.2.
